Caps lock 'should be banned'

A leading web guru has called for manufacturers to ditch the caps lock key to stop misuse

"The Caps key is an abomination," Hintjens writes Pieter Hintjens on his blog.

His newly founded CapsOff organisation - motto: STOP SHOUTING - wants the Caps Lock button permanently retired as it's all too often left on by newbies, misused by trolls and stuffs up the entry of case sensitive passwords and the like.

"Listen, dudes", Hintjens told Wired. "No one wants that crummy Caps key. It's history."

Hardware manufacturers say the campaign is a tad pointless and won't succeed.

"The Caps Lock key is there, and people can choose to use it or not", one designer told Wired.
