Everyone's been through this at one time or another. If you have had a lay off through injury, illness, work or domestic problems, set yourself a date to go back and stick to it.
Remember, you won't be as good or as fit as you were previously, so don't expect miracles. It's often the case that when somebody returns after a lay off they get disillusioned when seeing how much their old training mates have improved.
Stick with it and take it easy to start with. Remember the most important thing is - to ENJOY it all.

lol
totally, there are 4th dan's in my club now and I was on the board their 1st dan.
However, that doesn't bother me much or calling them sensi.
However them telling me I'm doing a move wrong, when clearly it's them have it wrong does bug me! and it hasn't even or might never happen!!
I would suggest that when critisisms are made, you demonstrate the application of your own way of doing the technique - possibly with one of the people critisising you. Its a good way to show how your own technique 'works'.
As per my training log I'm going back to Taekwondo from Thursday night.
I'm gonna AACCCHHHEEE Friday :-)
My Master has been very good about it and said to take it easy and dip in and out as necessary to build it up, rather than trying to jump in to keeping up with the class where they're used to training (and weight half my weight).

I try to live by a few rules, a couple of which are:
1) If you can't change it (it's out of your control or in the past) there's no point wasting energy worrying about it. Also no point worrying about things until they happen (i.e. if you have a test at the doctors, leave the worrying until the results come back - if they come back fine you'll have had weeks of worrying for nothing).
2) Don't have regrets. If you wonder "shall I do this or that", then do it rather than think in the future "I wish I'd ...". That way you may not have enjoyed it, but at least you will know what it was like to try it.
Unfortunately my Taekwondo is definitely a number 2 category failure! I absolutely regret with all my heart ever stopping it. I've missed training so much over the past few years that I can't believe I haven't been back before now.
Oh well, at least I've taken the positive step now (before I hit 30 stone!).

Turn your regrets into positive thoughts - eg. 'I am now in a better position to understand and accept critisism'. 'I am more open minded and able to learn more productively'. etc etc.
It sounds as though you have a good attitude for Martial Arts anyway, so I dont think that you need much help. Enjoy your session back in your class and dont be too impatient.

Funny you should say that, it's what my instructor said when I visited on Tuesday night. Without wanting to sound big-headed, I could kick back in the day. I think that's going to be the hardest part, my mind will know what to do but my body won't do it!
I found some old pictures of me so I can try to have a visual goal of what I'd like to be able to do again. Attached if they're of interest to anyone.
Chris Nolan's second Batman picture and Heath Ledger's swan song make for truly epic viewing. Click for Film editor Chris' review and tell us what you think
