Outspoken games analyst Michael Pachter has stated he believes the cost of reworking Manhunt 2 to make it acceptable to the BBFC could be as much as $1 million dollars. Any comments?

We're trying to secure a playtest despite the ban, but from what we've heard the narrative sounds pretty rough. Rockstar can afford the changes.

Serves them damn well right. Had enough of this company's juvenile bullshit which they try to justify with the work of art nonsense and to a lesser extent, until GTA San Andreas, being too lazy to ensure their PC conversions worked. I still need a no-CD hack to make Vice City work properly.

They've shown with Table Tennis for the Xbox 360 that they can make games that aren't itching to get banned in the name of trying to get free press for a plotless piece of crap. They didn't mind the fact that the first one was wrongly blamed for a murder (iirc it was the victim that owned the game not his killer of the same age group). They just didn't mind at all, despite some retail-induced censorship.

If $1million makes them grow up and wake up and stop trying to force tougher censorship on gaming as a whole, then I'm all for it. Should have been double.

I personally feel that the games industry and censorship institutions aren't properly making their mind up and setting a bar for things to be set against. Until the boundries of taste, decency and 'art' are defined for both there will continue to be cases like this.

I generally don't have a problem with violent games and don't see why their censorship should be treated any differently to the films that we watch, the bullsh*t argument that you're involved in the action seems to forget the fact that you're dealing with 18 year-olds; I'd hope that most 18 year-olds would be able to recognise killing people is bad. Like eating people is bad (Hannibal).

On the other hand, these game developers were pure sick f*cks - sticking an image of Jamie Bulger in the game is just absolutely horrendous.

If they had used his image in a film people would have simply protested about watching it - so they should with a game as well!

that wasn't this game

My bro picked up the first manhunt on the ps2, was just a rubbish game. People only ant to buy it because it gets banned, they want to see what the fuss is about.

The problem is that little kids get hold and play the games, which is usually the fault of the parents who buy it for them.

Well, that sucks. It says it's potentially harmful to chrildren, but they shouldn't be playing it anyway
