Well, looking at these already buff torsos, I have the most work to do (but also the most to gain).
For those who have not met me, I am an overweight 50 year old with a bad back. The back is a cause for concern, and I am waiting for advice from some of the resident experts on suitable exercises that won't make it worse (no enthusiastic amateurs please)
The back problem is from an injury I received last year, which has made me extremely nervous about doing any loading exercises on it, however, some yoga type exercises, kindly given by Mr Shuts has made a big difference to the pain and easement.
I swim daily for about 30 minutes, and have recently been trying to improve my diet with lots of fresh fruit and veg.. My downfall is cheese and crisps, but I haven't had any for a while.
I have no intention of posting a pic of me 'before', until I get to the end of the challenge, but I will commit to this.
I will send a 'before' pic to Kid Icarus, with a newspaper to prove the date and trust him not to post it until the end of the competition when he gets my 'after' pics
My aim is to lose some inches from my 38" waist, lose some bodyfat, and pluck up the courage to show you guys my 'before and after' pics.
I'll get weight etc stats at the weekend, as I am about to go off till then
good luck jimmie.
have you had the all clear from a doctor or physio to train?
Nash, I haven't been to the docs since I was in hospital with it. I don't like doctors - they only give out pills. You think I might drop dead from a heart attack? I out-danced the youngsters on Friday, and didn't have a hangover on Saturday (Gerg and Matt-O).
good luck jimmie.

you go girl.. but get the ok from a doctor or physio before you snap your spine or something :P
What is she going to say - she doesn't even know what's wrong with it !
I would rather trust my own common sense, and the advice of you guys, honestly.
I won't do it if it hurts.
Kid, you know I was up for the training on Saturday.
i was thinking about your back, not your fitness. what sort of injury was it?
Diagnosis: 'well something got trapped, and got untrapped, or something popped oput and popped back in again'
Since then, I cannot stay sitting too long, nor sit on the floor or the beach, but I can stand all day long if I need to.
But no amateur diagnoses please!
I wasn't going to give you one. that's why i'm saying go to the docs. I can't imagine anyone can give you the all clear to exercise without knowing your medical history.

That's the trouble, there was no medical history ! A morning spent in Nuneaton General Casualty department, and some pills. That's it !
