often ticket touting has worked in my favour..
Especially with festivals when tickets have sold out, if you avoid the panic and rush buy a ticket a week or two before the event, you usually manage to get it cheaper than face value (especially when using ebay)
but the same works for gigs in london, wait around until the que has died down and you can often get them cheap if you haggle.
However dont get me wrong it does piss me off when an event sells out in about 5 minutes and 5 minutes later there are 100 posts on ebay!!

only time i've sold a ticket was for a gig that my friend had pulled out of seeing, ended up selling it for a 50% loss!

It is a disgusting practice! Preventing people who really want to go from going just so the rich can say they were there. Obviously if illegal then it can't be condoned. If you buy an extra ticket and then can't go you should just give it to a friend.
