We were woken this morning by a neighbour telling us a cat had been knocked down and killed outside the flat.
Mrs Will called the RSPCA and was told that they were too stretched to come out. They suggested we call the our local council's Environmental Health department so we did.
The council said it would take 10 days to come and pick up "rubbish" and that we should put the cat in a bag and throw it in the bin.
We were shocked. Aside from the environmental health concerns, you can't just throw a dead cat in a bin. It's inhuman.
We've been calling round vets this morning to see if the cat can be scanned (it may have a chip to identify its owner) and given a decent send off. Happily, there's one at the top of our road so we're going to take the cat up later.

If the council had it's way, whoever owned the cat outside our place would never know.

What a shame. Obviously someone will be really upset but I think it is better for the owners to know than to always wonder. I found a dead cat in the road once and we searched and found a collar further down the road. We took the cat home phoned the number and the owner came and picked it up. She was very sad but said it was better to know and that she could bury it in the garden.

Reminds me of the time my uncle's Council department was responsible for clearing 'The Common' after the circus had been to town.
When they arrived in the wee small hours, they found one very large, very heavy, very dead elephant.
I think it is still buried there !

I recently had an injured seagull out the back of the gym.
I called the local bird hospital and the RSPB, but neither of them were willing to pick it up.
I had to drive 10 miles to take the thing there,
So much for animal welfare or charity. Not ever giving a penny to the RSPB.

Go to the website "germanshepherdrescue" and see how much the charities like RSPCA, etc actually care about animals.
They seem more interested in their salaries at the end of the month.

Mr Shuts being kind to seagulls?
You must be going soft in your old age, as well as soft in the belly.
I thought you would have run over it with the car, or drowned it in a water butt.
