I've been hearing for a while now how good Peanut Butter is for building muscle ... but is there any particular peanut butter I should be buying?

I always thought the usual Sun-Pat stuff you see in most supermarkets, would be really bad for you.

Cheers,
MJ

Well it is high in protein.

Also very high in calories, and much of its calorie content comes from fat.

As for brands, I dont know as I think the stuff tastes like poison!

You would be better off with a Natural Peanut butter, unprocesssed. Holland & Barrett sell it.

Stay away from the peanut butter that's full of sugar, i.e. Sun-Pat. I buy Sainsbury's So Organic peanut butter (crunchy), which as the same ingredients as Whole Earth peanut butter (Roasted peanuts 97%, palm oil, sea salt), but it's only a fraction of the price.

Meridian - buy Meridian. Just peanuts and a bit (probably quite a bit0 of salt. No palm oil.

aye, it's a good source of calories rather than muscle building per se. But if you are trying to lose weight, then you are trying to slowly reduce calory intake. Like matbas said, avoid the ones spiked with sugar

Cheers Greg - I haven't been eating it so far. I was just kind of suprised to see it keep popping up in various diet plans.

It's because it's a source of good fats, decent protein and is versatile! You can put it on toast, in curries and stir fries as well as smoothies. The down side is that it's pretty moreish and you need to weigh it if you're watching your calories- not very convenient!
