...Her sister has just been to New York with her boyfriend, and yes you've guessed it - they're engaged!!! Argh!!!
Like I said I'm gutted, I'm certain that I want to do it when I planned but yet again I'm worried what everyone will think
SW
God, what a pain in the arse!! I've come across this before, when couples in groups of friends wait until another couples wedding is over before getting engaged so as to not 'steal their thunder'!
I say f*ck it. If they think you are trying to 'copy' then they are losers. It's your life and your gfs life - if you want to do it at new year then do it at new year.

It's that kind of attitude that's gotten the world where it is! 'F*k it!'

So you saying SW should wait for probably 2 years before popping the question to his gf because her sister is getting married?!
Why should he?
3 years.
Lol, no. I'm with you really, PGE.
Although, I would never get married at the same time as a friend, relative. I would still wait till after the wedding, but not 2 years, or even 2 months but maybe till after they came back from their honeymoon.
What the hell do I know. I can't see me getting married for a very long time, if at all! lol.
Hey folks sorry to be a pain the arse and bring this up again but I feel this is important.
Basically today she's got a new necklace off her gran which is a simple ruby type stone and she says "I think I'd like a ruby engagement ring, something thats colourful" Naturally I was a little caught on the hop with this given that she's previously kinda skirted around anything to do with engagement so I was quite encouraged by this although the engagement ring I have bought is white gold with diamond and aquamarine. Although as discussed before there is always the option of a 'proper' engagement ring in the future given that this one is around £300 instead of 10% of my wage.
Anyway..we continued talking in that vein and basically the upshot is that she says she's not ready to get engaged yet. So I asked her whether she'd prefer a surprise or whether she'd like to discuss the prospect first and if the time was right then a surprise proposal to follow that. Do you follow me?
So what do I do now;
1) obviously the simple answer is to ditch my plans for new year and just enjoy the holiday without risk of ruining it
2) plough ahead regardless and risk rejection and ruining a perfectly good holiday by putting her in an awkward position
Then of course what do I do about the ring I've already bought?
