Hi Mate

1. As u will see i use a mygym which gives me a great wkout and love using it but i have got the offer of 2 extra bits of equipment. The first being push up bars which if used i would have the bars on the floor the floor and my feet on my bed so my body was elevated as i reckon this would really push me. Is this a good exercise to do and what does it wrk?

Push up bars are worth the investment if they're free or you're short on space, definately.

When you can do 8-10 full slow pushups, elevate your feet to make them harder.

The 2nd is a gym ball which i think may be better than an ab roller formy abs as i can go further back and stetch my abd even more giving them a better wkout??
So what do u guys think about those 2 little additons??

Definately better than an Ab Roller, but ideally you'll want something more stable than a gym ball long term. Funnily enough, the best thing for ab work you can get is the floor! Once you learn how to contract your abs properly when you crunch, all you need is a bit of soft flooring and something to add weight to your chest when they get too easy.

If you get a gym ball though, do make sure it's the right size for you. If you remind me how tall you are, I can let you know which one to get.

So in a nutshell, thumbs up on the pushup bars, and gym ball is better than an ab roller, so if it's free and it's the right size, grab yourself one.

Although none of these will be as good as a bench and some dumbbells! If you're looking for long term physique changes, it's definately something you should look into for the future.

Keep it up!

Anthony

Hi Ant my height is 5ft8 and a bit!!

Well my main aim is to lose bodyfat and lose the stomach so that i am down to a decent bf percentage and have a flat stomach, flat pecs (no sag) and lose the bingo wings which im guessing i can do with the equipment that i have??

I am not really worried about definition that doesnt bother me as long as i can have a slim flat physique to build upon then i am happy as once i get to that stage i dont really want to bulk up just shape my body and perhaps add a few pounds of muscle to beef up the pecs and arms a bit nothing major.

But i guess from what your saying the equipment i have is good enough for the fat loss part of the programme but for bulk and/or defintion i need to use proper weights like barbells and dumbells?

Hi guys,
Here are my results for this week

Weight 150.0lbs
Bodyfat 25.2lbs
Bodyfat 16.8%
Water 60.7%
BMI 22.2

Stomach 91cm

Fairly impressive as they are my lowest stats ever since i have been posting on here. However i have been through a series of illness and personal problems so i have been sticking to the diet and obviously gradually losing weight bit by bit but i havent been working out. So i have lost weight and my stomach is smaller but not flatter as i have just become a smaller version of the shape i was before.

The good thing is that now i am out the other side and my problems are sorted i can continue with my diet but now re-introduce the exercise bk into things as well. It is misleading that i am 150lb as the weight loss is more than likely muscle and my bodyfat levels have probably remiained the same or are very slighhtly higher. I can tell as i can tell my arms are smaller than before not majorly but i can notice.

So because i am a lower weight but the same bodyfat i guess i am going to have to go to a lower weight than once estimated. I am aiming in 18wks to lose roughly 15lb in weight which will see me lose roughly 18-20lb bodyfat. This based on Anthonys rule that if visibly you need to lose 10lbs fat in reality you have to lose double that.

Also after looking through things and how other people have found things my wkouts will gradually reduce. As in weeks 1-6 i will wkout 4 times a week, weeks 7-12 i will wkout 3 times a week and weeks 13-18 i will wkout twice a week as this seems to be a good gradual sliding scale of things.

Anthony what i want to know is with this renewed determination after putting things behind me and being fighting fit to start again if i follow the diet as outlined in earlier posts and combine it with the sliding scale wkouts as mentioned above could i realisticly in 18wks lose the 15lb weight/ 20lb bodyfat that i need to get compeltely slim and back in shape again ready to go into a new phase to increase calories and bulk up a little bit??? losing 15lb from my current weight would leave me at 135lb (9st9lb) would this weight be ok for me at 5ft8 or would that be alittle low???

Hi Lelloman. Keep it up with the diet and with weights workouts you should easily lose 15lb in 18 weeks. I dont really see the point in going 4xpw at first though, 3 is easily enough and after I while you could drop to 5 times per fortnight if you feel like thats too much, but you may need a week off after 8-12 weeks rather than doing 18 weeks none stop.

135lbs at 5 8'' gives you a BMI of 20.6, which is still in the healthy range so would not make you underweight

I like to have:

- a banana (keeps me going)
- oat cakes (some of the fruit ones are well tasty, and come in little individual bags)
- a small handful of nuts (not salted ones)
- low fat yoghurt
- low fat cereal bar (Ryvita, Special K, and a load of others do them - get one with oats for sustained energy)
- a crusty bread roll (hits the mark better than you'd think)
- a low calorie cup a soup

If you have time for a little prep work you can also get away with something like:

- low fat humous or similar (a decent desertspoon full is enough) with some crunchy veg to eat with it
- toast with marmite (if you have a toaster at work)
- Manjack (have a look at the recipe pages)

Hope this helps - calorie counting is really important here, so make sure you check out what things are calorie wise. And eat before you get ravenous, because it's when I'm gagging for food I'll do something terrible like nailing a Big Mac!

Hope this helps - let me know how it goes. Oh, and slosh it down with tons of water.
