MBT trainers. anyone any experience?

Hello all!
Has anyone any experience of those mbt (Masai Barefoot Technology) trainers ? They're getting really good reviews but £120 for a pair of trainers is alot to shell out for if they dont work! Wondered if anyone here has tried them for a while and if theres much difference.

(whoops! was looking at something else on the site so I've put it in the wrong section!) oh well! could be worse!

not heard of them, do yo udo a lot of running, or just trying buy something that you think will encourage you to take up running?

Your best bet is to get down to a specialist (i.e. NOT JJB style) running shop, sweatshop for instance, and get measured up. They will tell you what type of shoe is best for your foot, as everybody walks differently.

Nike do a pair of trainers that might be similar, "Nike Free" I think, that are supposed to be like running barefoot, and about half the price.

Bear in mind that after years of shoe abuse, you may not have developed the muscles to run barefoot, so be careful. Running on grass is best, as it is soft and gentler on your joints. Concrete and tarmac are less natural.

Or maybe entirely non natural :P

Just googled it to get this http://www.barefootstudio.co.uk/mbt.shtm

Their claims sound somewhat overblown. I think greg is right, you'd be better off going to specialist running shop.

Thanks for your reply, MBT trainers are meant to exercise more of your leg muscles for a more intense workout and correct your posture. I do alot of walking but still need to lose about a stone and need all the help I can get!
Thanks for the info on the Nike trainers.

Just be careful, you'd probably be better off with a pair of decent running or walking shoes (note that running and walking are completely different so you really need separate shoes!)

Try concentrating on improving your posture instead of relying on shoes. Keep your back straight when bending down, use your abs to keep your spine neutral. Things like this, and integrate it into everything you do.

This product will not help you to lose a stone! Don't waste your money.
If you want to lose weight, try the Mansized weight loss plan by our fitness guru Anthony.

Even if you don't follow the plan, you will find out how to lose weight and learn that the most important factor is your diet, not your shoes ;-)

That is right. I use Nike Free myself, although they are designed for running, they can be used in the gym and for general wear; and cost a lot less then £120 too.

I keep seeing ads for these and people wearing them.

They look like shoes for 'special' people.
