The Man From Earth (2007) [IMDB]

An impromptu goodbye party for Professor John Oldman becomes a mysterious interrogation after the retiring scholar reveals to his colleagues he is an immortal who has walked the earth for 14,000 years. Acclaimed Sci-Fi writer Jerome Bixby conceived this story back in the early 1960's. It would come to be his last great work, finally completing it on his deathbed in April of 1998.

Just finished this and for a film that last an hour and a half where there is no action scenes, or fancy cgi, flashbacks except a group of friends and intellectuals sit in a cabin and have such a conversation bouncing back and forth is very captivating. Easily merits the rating it has on IMDB, only let down by it's low budget camera quality which makes it feel slightly amateurish (there are a few faces that are quite well known to me) and the starting few minutes seem quite rocky in keeping my attention, but it really sucks you in as the minutes pass.
Was expecting this too blow, but it's surprised me.

Producer thanks Filesharing sites and Torrents

Just checked out the forums on IMDB for this film and it doesn't look like it's out on DVD over here. Could be wrong. I happened to get it from p2p. It's a film i'm definitely considering buying when and if it shows up on these shores. And I don't tend to do this that often, rarely in fact. That's how good I felt this film was :D

I got a 1 CD-sized rip (700mb) because I was initially skeptical about how good it was - i have downloaded tripe before and not too keen on wasting precious bandwidth on a rubbish film), even with it's IMDB rating. But now that i've seen it, i'm getting the file again in better quality (2 CD) till I can get hold of the DVD. :-) If you do watch it, let me know what you think.

Will do. I've gone for a small KVCD- quicker to download and only 2 minutes to burn with Nero. It's all good!

I watched this film 2 weeks ago, almost turned it off after 10 minutes as the acting is pretty poor really.

However an interesting story line made me watch it all the way!

Would I watch ut again? No
Am I glad I watch it? Yes

You think the acting is poor?. I actually think the acting is pretty good, very geniune. It's not your typical hollywood film acting where everything is just a bit over the top. Your not the first to say it is poor though, but you are in a small minority.

The biggest negative I can think of is that the quality of the camera (DV) shows noise and it looks flat. But the people who made it did it independently so they had a small budget.

I'm happy with the camera work, it's not a big budget and you see and understamd that right away, and therefore things like camera work is given some room.

The acting is very woody, more so at the beinging, so either I just got used to them or it got better as they warmed up. Something tells me it didn't take long to shoot and I see no reason why they didn't need to start filming at the start of the film!
