Some of you may remember that the girlfriend and I where trying to get our young horse backed around a year ago, well we have been very busy and not only have we backed the horse but also managed to get it to load into a hore box, we also had a problem boxing the older horse that's 32 yrs old.
Both of them now load into the box within 3 minutes and seem to enjoy the fact they go places, see different things and then go back home again.
My girlfriend had wanted to ride her horse who is 32 down the beach for soooooo long, well yesterday morning at 7 bloody a.m in the freezing cold weather we did it, as she had a nice (but cold) ride along camber beach with her daughter on her 4 1/2 yr old horse.
Just wanted to inform those poeple who gave advice last yr. :-)
lol, well done mate, I have been through this as well and know they can be fcuks when they don't want to go into a box. My mate and I spend a good hour trying to get one of there horses into the box at a show once before having to give up and just leave the horse at the show till the next day when it could be tried again.
Have you sorted your horse loading problem? We started by using a lung line, nice and long. Clipped it to the head collar and walked into the horse box, then I wrapped it around the breast bar, then the girlfriend walked the horse towards the box. I just take up any slack before the horse stops.
Now if the horse stops and started to back up I locked the lung line round the breast bar, I then pulled on the lung line while calling out Walk On. As they walk on I take up the slack again.
It's a cruel to be kind thing, but without really being cruel, better than using a snaffle.
After the third time in the box they now just walks in, no problem, there like different horses. It make going out much easier, and better for the horses and for the girlfriend and her daughter.
Thanks for the replies, we are hoping that the easy loading continues for ever :-)
As for how long do hoses live for, the oldest that has been recorded is somewhere around 58/59 yrs old, makes the girlfiends horse look young, still plenty of life left in the old nag yet.
Oh, by the way, did any one look at the short clip, did it look ok, I took it with my little digital camera.
