Talk / Time off / Music / Save Planet Rock!

HI folks. Yesterday my partner and I had the privelege of visiting the studio at Planet Rock, which is due to close down by the end of March if a buyer isn't found. I can't, at this moment, imagine what life would be like without Planet Rock, it's the only reason I have a digital radio and I listen via the internet for several hours during weekdays on headphones while I'm working.

Anyway, some fans have set up a Save Planet Rock site. In the About section is a set of links to relevant forum discussions so I'd like to get them to add a link to this one on Mansized. The people we met at PR are passionate about their station but are powerless to do anything and are just sitting waiting for who knows what, so any fan activity is very welcome in the hope that potential buyers can see how many people care and that it's worth saving.

If you like rock music, please pledge your support to the station. Join the forum at http://www.planetrock.com and have a look at Save Planet Rock
where I hope sometime later today there will be a link back to Mansized.

Thank you!

Cheers for your post RT. What's the problem with the station? Not enough advertising?

Well, it's part of a bigger picture - The GCap CEO has said that digital "was not an economically viable growth platform for GCap Media".

Even the fans are trying to buy it:-) If I win the jackpot at the weekend, I'll buy it myself. While it perhaps isn't making money, or enough money, right now, I understand the number of listeners was growing all the time so it needs a buyer with a longer term future in mind.

Will, can you make this a sticky at the top of the Music section please, I am just about to post a link to the Music section on the Planet Rock forum.
http://www.mansized.co.uk/talk/board.phtml/board19, so it'd be good if it stayed at or near the top for a few weeks.

If the only person adding to this thread is me, then I probably need to get them to remove the link to Mansized from the Saveplanetrock site as it's rather embarassing! Does no-one listen to the station?

Not my sort of station I’m afraid. However, I am a big fan of radio and have lots of digital radios round the house and also listen to DAB radio on the way to and from work as well as over the internet. . The more variety the better I say. I think the CEO was very short sighted . Good luck in your quest

I'm afraid I don't listen to it, no. But I will. I think GCap and the like are having a tough time with digital stations unfortunately
