Hey,

I have 14 weeks to lose the spare tire round my waist and try and get to a level I was 2 years ago where I slugged and sweated and reached 93kg before giving up. How stupid was I doing that.

I have tried alsorts to get fit, not worry about weight, posted numerous logs, entered challanges... Yet nothing seems to get me off my fat lardy arse long enough to keep the momentum.

Current weight 105.2KG aroung 16.5 stone- Target in 14 weeks is 85.2kg- when I go on holiday. Im not expecting big muscles, six pack etc. Just a way to burn off all this fat around my waist, neck chin etc. There is a lot.

My main downfall is generally my diet, I love fatty food- addicted in fact. Even when I was going to the gym 3 times a week. football twice a week etc I got fitter but my weight (and more importantly my waist size) has always stayed the same.

I know the lose your love handles regime is my best bet for losing the fat, whilst retaining the little muscle I have but I know I wont stick to the calorie factor.

Therfore im a little bit lost as to what is best. I know its going to take all my energy and effort to do it, even get close to it.

20kg in 14 weeks, possible?? It is 3 pounds a week. Maybe to start with 3pounds is achieavable but towards the end Im not sure.

Any advice appreciated?

Seems to me you love food more than you love the idea of being fit and in good shape. This could be the thing that prevents you from achieving your goal.

Having just shed 10 kg in 8 weeks I can say that diet control has been integral in the process.

If you can't get that monkey off your back you are going to have one heck of a hard uphill slog.

agreed, you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Change the diet or be stuck being fat.

Unfortunately its quite simple.

Your body has a resting metabolic rate. This is the amount of calories your body needs just to exist. Doing exercise will increase this figure.

To lose fat the calories your body uses has to be more than what it has available.

So, something like :

Calories for Fat loss = resting metabolic rate + calories used as exercise - food eaten.

So, assuming your body needs 2500 calories.

300 = 2500 + 300 (assuming daily significant exercise) - 2500 (assuming you eat "normally").

So you have 2100 calories for fat loss per week (7*300). Considering there are 3500 calories in a pound of fat, it will take you around 2 weeks to lose a pound of fat. Thats all very simplified of course, but I hope you can see where I am coming from.

Of course all of the above depends on how much your actually eating, assuming more than what your body needs as you have put weight on. I dont think you have a choice but to cut down on what your eating. You have kind of implied you do all sorts of exercise, but your waist isnt getting any smaller. That implies your not losing any fat. Maybe muscle if your weight is going down.

Unfortunately you dont have much choice but to eat less. You have admitted yourself you wont keep to a calorie controlled diet. Why is that? Maybe because you dont want to enough. In that case in 14 weeks time, you will look much the same. Can you make sacrifices for 14 weeks to get what you want? At the moment it seems you want to eat/drink what you like MORE than looking better for holiday. Is that the case?

This is worth re-reading, then re-reading again. It explains the situation very well.

At the moment, you're not ready to get in shape. Your actions will define your priorities, and at the moment you don't want to lose the weight, you want to eat fatty foods.

This is the key point. You can lose the weight, increase your strength, fitness, vitality, and enjoy your life more as a result, but you have to want to do that. At the moment, you're not in that place, you want to eat fatty food more than you want those things.

Don't sweat it though, that's not a negative, it's just pointing out you're not ready yet. When you are, you'll excel, just like everyone else.

Mostly it's habitual, and if you stick to a proper eating routine for 21 days straight, you'll have formed new habits which you can stick to to get and stay in shape. If you do it half heartedly in the first few weeks, you wont plant the right seeds in your brain for the long term.

So don't rush into it, take your time, wait until you're ready, then when you are, put together a proper plan and stick to it. That's how you make long term changes, and trying to do that before you're ready will just cause you frustration and make it more difficult the next time.

When you are though, we'll be here to get you off to a good start!

Anthony

PS. Funnily enough, I've found one of people's biggest motivators is holiday photo's which could be a really good thing for you based on your upcoming holiday. So you may just find when you get back and look over yours your priorities change!

If that's the case you'll be in a really good position to get in shape for your next holiday, look back, and laugh at this years photo's when you are!

Thanks for the comments all apreciated.

I do want to lose weight, dont get me wrong; I guess its always been an issue with the diet. Even when my eating habits have changed I tend to always revert back to the easy option. Take outs etc. I dont smoke or drink lots. Eating is generally my thing. Boredom, stress, et al I eat lol.

I started exercise yesterday, I went for a 3 mile run and walked for about half of it over the period of the 40 minutes or so it took. Ache a bit this morning but will be on the bike and rowing machine later. Shins hurt a bit from the impact of running.

I have done a lot of soul searching over the last 24hrs and realise habits in the kitchen department need to change. I have stuck a pic of myself on the fridge, not flattering at all. Ive written down what im going to eat over the course of the week. I think if I plan in advance and only buy those foods im not going to eat take out. Something I have done before and it worked. Just need to stay focused on it.

I have also written down the foods I like, and those I dislike and will place them into good bad foods types. Im also going to buy some drinking chocolate to help with my cravings for chocolate. Tinned fruit instead of cake etc and smaller portions too. When you cook for one you always make way to much. Its time to buy some containers so I can freeze some of the things I make- again I hope this will steer me away from the take out and it will be quicker too.

I do want it, I have emailed my best friend a pic of me in speedo's lol. He is going to email everyone I know and prob some other people if I fall of the wagon. Beleive me I dont want that to happen. I have got a sneaky suspicion he will email everyone anyway but if I get in shape I wont care.

Thanks for the comments, really motivated me to try and change. Exactly what I needed to hear. Even if I prefer the idea of having my cake and eating it etc lol

This is exactly why you should make a training log on here, and update it every single day telling us all exactly what you ate. That way you're accountable and any slip ups can be jumped on by us so we get you back in the right direction.

Good man! As Mexo says, get stuck in with a training log, and we can get you on the right road from the start.

Good luck!

Cadbury's Highlights would probably be the best option, at only 40 odd cals per sachet.

Options is only 34 calories per drink and in my opinion it tastes better.
