Embryos created in this way would not be implanted in women or female animals to create young, but would be used to harvest stem cells for experimental purposes before being destroyed.

Backers regard the bill as crucial in making advances in treating and preventing conditions such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, cancer and heart disease.

Haven't they got anything better to challenge in this world than something that could potentially do real good?

There is no way anyone would implant these foetuses, so stories of half human half animal babies are nonsense. In any case, very little of the embryo is animal. They are taking animal eggs and removing the dna and replacing it with human dna, this saves having to use human eggs.

I have to wonder how far this research will take us though, as I think it would be potentially too dangerous to use the derived cells in human therapy, in which case the research done on them might not be applicable.

I don't know about you guys but I see this as the future of superheros. We could have 'Cowboy'. Like a normal cowboy except he has udders and a bell round his neck. Crime fighting udders.

I'd be impressed Phoenix. Hows your bunsen burner?

Anyway who the f*ck do these Christian groups think they are?
Can you imagine a group of Heavy Metal music fans making demands like these to Government? They would be laughed at and rightly so. I don't see the difference with Christians. This is a great example of attempting to force beliefs on other people.

*blushes*

I wish I could remember the article I read the other week, apparently some ethic groups do have major problems with some of the research , and not on religious grounds, I'll see if I can find it .

We wouldn't know half of what we do if every controversial research was stopped on some peoples' moral beliefs.

If we can get super-powers even better ;-p
