Not after pity just needed to put this somewhere so dont feel obliged or anything to respond

This evening at 8:40 my hero left this earth. Im sad but pleased for him at the same time, he had a full life, he just got to see his 3rd Great grand child born and thats all his grandchildren with kids now. He was 95 and last month he had blood tests and they said he had the cholesterol levels and blood pressure of a 20 year old, but not a current 20 year old but a fit and healthy one of days gone by.

So who was he to me and to many? Well he was the nicest kindest soul you would ever meet, he would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. I dont think he everr uttered a bad word at anyone, and the only time I have ever heard him swear was at my ex mother in law when she stood on a crazy paving slab that was setting that he had spent the last 2 hours adjusting.

He was a total and utter perfectionist. A market gardener by trade and inspired my love of gardening from a very young age, only to destroy my belief a couple of years back when he out of the blue declared his hated working on the land and was forced into it to help the family business! I remember many summers working with him on building sites when he finaly let me build a wall he took it down 2 times before he was happy I had done a good job. He worked in the building trade from his mid 40's and they finaly stopped him working at 82, not because he couldnt but because they were worried about him doing the 8 mile walk to work which included crossing a very busy stretch of the A1!!!!!!!!!

he had a love for life but his love of his life, my nan, was taken early.

he's been in hospital the last few days and funny enough perked up this morning. He asked for a wash a clean shirt and trousers and tie and said he wanted a shave. He then complained they hadnt done his hair right and he needed it right. His next words bought a lump to my throat, it had to be right as he was off to meet my nan later.

This evening he kissed my mum goodbye and said he had to go soon, he held her hand and he closed his eyes and went to sleep.

My hero has departed but a new angel is born

Its scary when you think he ploughed the land with a horse and cart and now we fly people into space regulalry, we have computers that can fit in your hand, we travel the world on holiday and regularly eat exotic foods!

95 is an incredible age and I have been lucky to have him here for so long

It is amazing how much has changed in the lifetime of our grandparents - and how they just adapted to the changes around them

Sorry to hear about your loss. I often think people forget about the grandchildren when grandparents die, it is not just the children who miss their folks, but the grandchildren too.

I don't know what to say.
I'll be honest and say I welled up a little reading your words.
My own grandfather passed away recently and they sound very similar.
Sorry for your loss mate.
