Talk / Fitness / Equipment / Makeshift squat safety stands for £10

Doing my weekly Lidl shop, I noticed in the catalogue that next week is DIY week. They have some tressels which hold 100k each, and are £4.99 each.

They're 74cm tall, so will be somewhere between knee and hip height on most people. Obviously you'll need to keep your hands on the bar as you get out from under it, but saw horses and tressels make great squat safety stands for those who workout at home on a budget.

If you have a Lidl near you, might be worth picking up a catalogue and seeing if yours is included.

Top idea Anthony and perfectly timed. I have just been looking around for a cheap and space saving alternative to a full squat rack as I don't have much room left in my garage.

I might take a trip to Lidl and pick a couple up. I will let you know how I get on. If you don't hear back it means they have collapsed and I am stuck underneath the bar...please call the emergency services :-p

PMSL. Don't die hatter. They're on their way.

Good idea that. If each holds 100kg, does that mean in theory you could squat 200kg safely with 2 supporting the weight.

In theory! But as John pointed out, you do need to take into account weight distriburion.

Still, if you're squatting 200k+ at home, you'd be better off shelling out and investing in a power rack!
