This is an interesting topic. Before my wedding (4 years ago) I got down to about 12% bf (my best). I could say no when I knew my body (or my goal) would suffer.

Since then I've been ok with food and alcohol with a slightly easier attitude. Ok I've not quite got down to 12% bf but I've been happy about my body image. My Nan used to say "a little of what you fancy does you good".

But I have also been broght up to finish my food, and I do feel like a glutton sometimes for, almost, obsessing about food.

I think that as a country we are quite well off, the standard of living is quite high and we feel ok about being gluttonous about food or drink. Recent news concerning the amount of food we through away and the continued publicity about childhood obessity only goes to prove how easy we are with buying things we don't really need.

I beleive this about myself. Most of the "little bit of what I fancy" I don't really need.

Each time I read that someone has had a 'blowout' with regard to losing the weight it seems they kick the living arse out of it.

Why?

you say this now. But you must've have done this in the past when not trying to loose weight,.. otherwise you wouldn't have excess weight to loose?

LOL... not relevant at all. Weight goes on and comes off slowly. Having blowouts won't give you 40lbs of extra weight. It is a gradual process.

You call that a blowout? =o

That's kind of my point. I know I am not kicking the arse out of my diet but also know I am at my calorie limit so I allow myself the sandwich but not 3 sandwiches plus a bana plus a yoghurt plus 3 beers!

the benifit of bulking for so long is its hard to have a blowout when you can maintain on 3500cals! :-)

ham sandwitch is not a blow out! lol unless it was a black pudding and ham sandwitch spread with lard, with fries, a few beers and icecream to finish. It is good how you consider going a little over as being a blow-out though BC; shows you're commitment to succeed

Nope, still not a blowout....

I guessed it was kinda your point, I was just taking the michael!

I think it is down to the individual as to how much they can get away with as well, to stay on the point.

I don't think it's that bad, me. I used to work with this guy who I was proper good mates with. We used to work three days a week(mon, tues, weds) 8-8, then have the rest of the week off. He would eat proper healthy, no alcohol, during work days, go out for a night out on Thursday, and a night out on saturday. He'd be at the gym, thurs, fri and sat. Not wanting to sound gay, his body is fantastic. Really spot on.

If people want to do what my mate does, that's fair enough - it's their life. But, if people want to do it the other way, no blow outs, then that's fair enough too.

Personally, I wouldn't want to miss out on having loads of beers with me mates during the summer, but, as I said, each to his own.

Don't be silly dan, we all know you have no mates!

I guess it'd be very easy to have a massive blow out when you've been good for so long. If you're denying yourself certain foods and alcohol then, when you allow yourself to have them, you'll see them as a forbidden treat that you've been denied access to. Then it'd be so much easier to go overboard as you know you won't get another opportunity for a while.

If you are going out with the guys why not say you are having a blow out and have just a couple of pints and be happy you have gone outside the diet but you have enjoyed a treat rather than hammered the crap out of it?

I hate blow outs, I'm a sucker for them & what get's me fat in the first place.

Going for a night out with your mates & having two beers is not a blow out. I'd rather not go out or stick to the soft stuff & drive.

If you are out on the beers, normally a night out is 8pm - 2am, that's 6 hours of hanging out with your mates, just one pint an hour would mean 6 pints (which isn't a million miles away from a blow out). So. I don't think it's that difficult to do. Sometimes you have to live a little rather than be a food/ drink nazi

I don't really have 'blow outs' as such.

When I was trying to lose weight I was good 90% of the time, and when I wanted to be naughty I didn't go wild - I'd just have treats that were sort of on the healthy side (like a chicken shish instead of a doner kebab, a veggie thin base pizza instead of a pan base pepperoni and a gin and slim tonic instead of a pint!).

About twice a week I probably have a few drinks and some food that isn't particularly healthy like a pizza or a meal out with chips. I'm good the rest of the time though so it doesn't affect me too badly.

I haven't got a sweet tooth really so I rarely have desserts or sweets anyway.

A little bit of what you fancy does you good!
