We have a sales division, obviously, and I just can't seem to get around their mentality.... I could not do the job myself and they are just so driven by targets they quite often take their minds off the actual job and product.... and concentrate on the sale.
their job is to research and find companies that will contract work out to us, we make software
probably temps
You also have to understand it is a very boring job and no reward of a sale.
I beg to differ, a truly sales driven person will get a buzz from making the sale (and often commission for making it too)! I enjoy selling things, but would hate to have a purely sales focussed job, as the target driven culture would kill me.
I think the main factor why people do not succeed in sales is that they are not sales people; they think they are, but they are attracted to the job by the promise of big numbers and fancy add-ons to their package.
Also, I hate 'sales' people who demonstrate no passion for the product that they are selling - I used to be a food manager, and for that job I used to try the food/wine, etc so that I knew it and would also get my staff to do the same, so that we were all knowledgeable and could use our experiences to sell the product. I hate it when you go in to a shop or a car showroom, and the person attempting to sell either bullshits you with crap info, or doesn't know what they are on about.
Ever spoken to sales people in Dixons/Currys etc They spout such bullsh!t, if I ever need to buy something I'll research it myself off the internet, can't stand salespeople!
Also had sales jobs when I was a student, cold calling by phone & knocking on doors. Soul destroying, crap work and you need to be as enthusiastic with 20 calls/pitches for just one sale!
I work in sales - it's not cold calling or commission based sales - more account management and looking for growth potential.
It can be difficult - particularly when trying to get in to see new customers and sparking interest in the products you sell. It can be long hours if you're out on the road as well - sometimes I'm out for 12 hours in one day then up again for the next day.
Also, we act as the point of contact for customers and when things go wrong, you get it in the neck, often you do not know about things going wrong until they're worse as well.
It is fun to meet new people and push products to those who are interested.
You get to see lots of the UK too!
