A natural sugar found in fruit is fuelling the obesity epidemic, scientists say. A study has shown that fructose - which is used to sweeten soft drinks and junk food - might be more harmful than other types of sugar.
get people to avoid fruit when it's the sugar in the soft drinks and junk food that are the problem... perhaps it's the people who are not eating fruit but getting their fructose from junk food that have the obsesity problem.
*plans a law to shoot all stupid scientists when he is president of the world*
its like that story with parents giving their kids "fad" diets high in fruits and low in calcuim and fat...thus teeth rotting and bone growth is stumped.
Moderation people,....
This is ridiculous. The amount of sugar in fruit is quite low anyway, especially when compared to the huge amounts in soft drinks and sweets. Plus fruit provides an array of vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and fibre. It's the fruit flavoured sweets and huge amounts of fruit juice we should be avoiding, not the fruit itself.
Maybe it's just the fact that people eat too much and do not do any form of exercise or activities to get them breathless is the reason they are fuelling the obesity epidemic!
"However, it also sneaks into our diet through the high-fructose corn syrup used in food manufacturing."
Erm, that might be the clue! The fructose concentration in syrup will be much higher than any found in mere fruit. As matt says, I seriously doubt overdosing on fruit is the problem, tho too much of anything is usually bad for you.

That's far too sensible an idea to be taken seriously Chris. You should be ashamed of yourself!
