yet they think it is okay for MP's £22k second-home allowance to be increased to £24k

I don't really think the pay rises are having much of an impact on inflation, it is more caused by the rising cost of such things like oil, wheat and rice.
It is also hard for people to accept smaller wage rises when MPs are able to vote for their own pay rise.
