Good work to get yourself there Leaner - even if "more" didn't happen :-)

Hope you get a very pleasant surpise next time you hop on the scales.

I dont believe anyone who says what I have just done to my body is good for it.
Its screaming.

Leg Curl 45 x 6 (same)
Leg Extension 63 x 9 (+1)
Chest Press 42 x 8 (+1)
High Row 49.5 x 7 (same , although very nearly got 8)
Standing Dumbell Bicep Curl 10 x 6 (-1)

My diet has been terrible this week, I dont know whats been wrong with me (well I have been off work for 3 days, havent been well, feeling better now though).
I think the whole diet, exercise thing is getting a bit much right now, I think I need a break. I did plan to try and do it until my holiday, 3 weeks yesterday. Lets hope I can get my head sorted.

I haven't read this thread in a while. I have only read the last post. That said, here's what I think you should do.

Make your next day at the gym Monday 14th July or one fo the days shortly after that. Until then, don't even attempt to get to the gym.

If that runs into the start of your holiday, so be it, take some time off.

As I keep saying though, diet is the majority of the battle when it comes to losing weight and maintaining your new lower weight and body fat %. I know that you know this.

Let's say that you stopped going to the gym for a month or so. Your not going to miss out by not burning calories that you would have burned as a result of your workouts. That's not going to make much of a difference. You may lose out on the growth stimulus that a good hard workout provides, and that may cause some muscle loss, but again, not loads.

Now let's say you fell off the wagon as far as your edit is concerned and reverted to total blowouts and eating loads of junk, processed, snack food and takeaways whilst getting back on the booze. That's going to cause you to gain a lot more weight, pretty quickly, than missing a few workouts will.

I reckon you give the gym a rest until at least the 14th and try to stay on top of your deit as much as you possibly can, even whilst you're on holiday.

You could easily undo a lot of the good work you have done in about half the time it has taken you to do it in the first place.

You necessarily have to count calories on holiday. What will matter is food choices and portion sizes. Even if you get a big portion of something in a restaurant, you don't HAVE to finish it.

You sound a bit all over the place. When you say your diet has been awful, what exactly have you been eating? I can't say I've done too well on that front myself - I have yet another different cake to eat at home :-/ I might just have a nibble and then throw the rest away without anyone noticing.

Come on lardass, it's just a few more days, get with it!

I think I can do the gym easier then the diet. I know thats probably the least productive in terms of weight loss. I think its the "mental" challenge of keeping the diet on track 24/7 , 7 days a week thats proving a bit tough. I fear I have done quite a bit of damage this week already (and maybe last weekend). I dare not think what the scales say right now, and I know alot of hard work can be undone very quickly. If that actually happens I know mentally that might be the beginning of a big fat slide the wrong way on the scales. Its strange, when its easy its easy, then all of a sudden it just becomes difficult over night, then a few indiscressions seem to turn into more etc. Its all a bit a messed up.

I think your right, I need to get and keep the diet on track, although I was hoping I could relax it whilst on holiday. I think this is where it starts getting really tough from here on in. Thanks for your comments.

What have I been eating? Where do I start!
I feel like a reformed drug addict who has just been on a binge.
I think partially its due to time off work and stresses going on, but who knows.
I know the challenge only has a few days left, but probably not long to make any in roads back again. I wish that was all I have to do, was a few more days, its years yet ;-)

Cheers Phoe.

Actually, it's the rest of your life! You need to start weaning yourself off all that bad food. Why exactly did you fall off the wagon, is it because you were at home ? Was the missus putting bad food in front of you or was it just because it was in the fridge? If the former, then you need to convince her to stop. If the latter - then yuo need to audit your larder and throw it away now so it cannot tempt you!

Rather than concentrating on not eating bad stuff, you need to concentrate on eating so much good food that there is no room left for the bad stuff

Well your right, the rest of my life. But a good while before I start feeling good about my body after the hard work. Then I hope, it will be eaiser ;-)

I dont blame the missus really on this occassion, although she has been buying stupidly big bags of crisps because they were on "offer".

It might have been boredom, needing a break, I dont really know what triggered my lack of discipline. Who knows what goes on with my head!

On a more positive note just bought shed loads of new clothes, and took loads to the clothes recycle. It wouldnt be good if I had to go and buy bigger ones!

And there's the reason it's tough.

Total time spent exercising, for you, per week, is no more than 90 minutes. Possibly a LOT less.

Diet on the other hand is every single waking moment, which adds up to about 6000+ minutes a week if you're me. That's a hell of a lot longer than 90 minutes, and that's why you're feeling the strain. Potentially you have to keep an eye on diet whenever you're not asleep. And you're not so much watching what you do eat, you're watching what you don't eat.

What you're experiencing now is the point where many people would try change their routine or do more exercise to compensate, but that's because they don't now any better.

You however do know. You're better than that. A least you know that diet is where the war is won and lost, and you don't kid yourself that you can run it off after you've swallowed that last mouthful of whatever it was that you were chewing on.

More sleep will help you, and remember to keep up your superhydration.

Keep on fighting mate. Digging in and battling on is what separates you from the "nearly men".

Hi Leaner - don't beat yourself up over a bad week.

Do everything Phoenix and Gary tell you to and just try and relax about it, you know what works for you, it is what has shifted over 4 stone of fat already :-)

Are you getting bored with a limited range of foods?

Off the wall suggestion but maybe go for a complete change by eating one of Johnny BB's food plans for a day or two.

He has always posted a well balanced menu and it "does the thinking for you" so you won't have to worry about counting.

I think you have this sussed though, heavy workload, not feeling 100% and in need of a holiday
