If anyone has seen the weekend papers over the last few months they will no doubt have seen something about the Midland Hotel in Morecambe.

Urban Splash has spent millions on restoring this gem of 1930s architecture, from a derelict wreck, reflecting all that was bad about the British seaside, and mixing in plenty of modern day touches. I think I have found my new fave building :)

Hopefully it will be the start of a whole heap more regeneration in the town, so not is it only a fantastic piece of architecture, and a great space, but it will also contribute to society.

Do you have a favourite building? What is it?

Here's some more photos of the Midland on Flickr

A building of a similar age is the De La Warr Pavilion - never been but would love to.

One of my favourite buildings is the Gherkin, but more for the interior and the view. Some great photos here

It's not a building as such but in Tunisia I visited the El Djem Roman ampitheatre and that was awesome! It was where they shot the fight scenes in Gladiator (obviously they CGI'd it as it's half in ruins). You could see the gouges in the walls of the animal pits made by the lions and even the grafitti was history, I read a piece by Pascal somebody dated 1894!
