My wife persuaded me to take her to see this film last night. With a cast headed up by Julie Walters, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan among others, you can't really go wrong I thought.

As they burst into the first ABBA number after a couple of minutes, I rolled my eyes and thought what had I let myself in for.

Some great ham over-acting by the leading ladies, incredible scenery and of course memorable tunes from ABBA, I soon warmed to the movie.

I won’t spoil it by telling you the plot, but it is a long time since I have been to a film which ended with the majority of the audience singing in the aisles at the closing credits.

The gym I go to is next to the cinema. As I left yesterday, the early show was leaving - large numbers of middle-aged women with fun on their mind can be a little scary!

I did think of you, and your love of all things ABBA.

I thought 'Claudio would enjoy this'

Did you have to remind me?

Well, if you can visualise Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firtth, Julie Walters and Meryl Streep dresssed like this for the closing number in the film, you won't forget again !

They looked as if they were having a good time doing it

Chum who saw the play reckons I would enjoy it - although I might be irritated by the hen parties. So, maybe on for a matinee when they aren't many people ion.

I just can't immagine Streep singing and dancing - but |I am sure Firth let his hair down and had a ball.

They were totally hamming it up, and as a result there were a few hilarious moments.

Odd that you should mention Streep, because there was actually one point at which I realised just how good an actress she is
