A 17-year-old girl today became the first size 16 girl to come second place in the Miss England beauty contest as 'Combat Barbie' wins 'Eco Girl' award.
So someone with type 2 diabetes in the making is now a healthier aim for young girls than their anorexic counterparts. Brilliant.
Question: why can't young girls just be given a nice healthy bodyweight to aspire to, not someone who's either underweight or overweight? I obviously don't read womens media so don't know how bad the problem is, but any women like to comment?
No way is that girl size 16! And she's not even got a pretty face.
While I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing someone larger (though someone actually size 16 should have been in it, not someone cleary over-weight) - it's such a PC win that it means absolutely nothing.
We all know of the health benefits of being leaner.
Although I am personally striving to become leaner, people have a choice.
And hats off to her for being comfortable with her body.

It's controversial because she doesn't fit the typical Miss England stereotype. I don't understand why she's done so well though. The girls who do well in this can be held up as role models and, after all the furore about the effect of size 0 girls in the media on anorexia incidents, it doesn't make sense to try to counter that with a girl who's over weight. If it's going to be fixed, then it should have been a girl of a healthy weight that they chose.

I think this is part of the problem.
Do most women or in fact men even know what a 'healthy' weight is?
In the magazines they sometimes print a load of celeb pics and tell you what they weigh. People who are supposed to have 'healthy' lifestyles in Hollywood tend to weigh about 7 and a half to 8 stone. For someone of my height (5 foot 6) that isn't healthy!
Posh spice weighs about 6 and a half stone. That's ridiculous.
