Aren't there 3 "Figaro" operas? Barber, Marriage and another?

More than three..

There are at least three versions of The Barber of Seville.

I'm only aware of one Marriage of Figaro.

Then there's Cherubin that is a sort of sequel (although the play that it is absed on is by a different author than the others).

The Ghosts of Versailles as an opera is a reworking on the third Figaro play.

That's at least six. It's all very complicated.

You really wanted to know that, didn't you?

Big fan of this one myself, although I prefer 'Cosi fan Tutti'... a little bawdier.

Have to agree with you Noffles. I know that 'Marriage' is regarded as the most perfectly structured opera but bits of it I find a but sluggish - I much prefer 'Cosi'.

Everyone knows how to google..

I had a video tape of cosi' when I was about 17 I think and kept it for years watching it periodically.... I have almost 2 Gig of classical stored on my PC that I listen to while I work. Nothing clears the head and helps me think like Mozart.

I'd actually quite like to go to the opera sometime - I think The Marriage of Figaro was being shown at the royal opera house in covent garden at the end of last month but couldn't find anyone who wanted to go or spend that much money!

Are you actually in London? I thought you were a Northerner for some reason.

No you were right - I live up in God's own country (not far from Gahoo). That was part of the problem - a couple of train tickets and a hotel for the night would probably add over £200 per head - on top of about £150 for the ticket itself... A fairly expensive night out really!
