PGE's comment has got me thinking: how much of the current 'crunch' and potential recession is a myth, created by the media, and how much is reality?

Does the media stoke the fire to make us wary of the danger, which then exaccerbates the state of the economy and makes it worse....

For me, reality. Prices of everything goes up, costs me more, I have less to spend on goodies/ fun

There was a news snippet in G2 the other day, about tricks stock traders do. Like "borrowing" shares from someone, selling them for high then hoping to buy them back for low price then handing them back to original owner. Cannot remember the name, but this sort of game can send price shares tumbling - wiped 20% off some bank the other day apparently.

I cannot believe we rely on these jokers so much!

I agree with Johnny. It’s all a bit of bad timing – you’ve got the credit crunch, the increase in food prices, the increase in oil all hitting at the same time. Yes, the media do stir things but the reality is that things are costing more, property is going down in value, people are losing jobs and it’s not going to get better in the short term.

I think it's more of a reality check.

You can't live forever on credit, oil is going to run out, food was too cheap, and house prices too high.

I agree, and have become much more frugal since the beginning of the year. But, I'm now overdrawn for the first time in months because I've had to spend stuff through work and they haven't refunded me my expenses yet, the gits.

And yes, it is my fault because I have got a company credit card that I forgot about!!!

When I gave up my sales job to go to Uni, I had to return my credit card, fuel card and car.
