His pseudo semi Scottish accent is his real accent, as it is for David Tennant (Dr. Who).

Then what accent is he using the rest of the time?

Also, quick question to the gay guys on here - did you play with dolls!?! How could has family not have known! Also the same with the little American guy.

Dolls? I take it you mean like female dolls, and not Action Man? :-/

I played with pretty much everything going when I was a child: cars, shop, kitchens, dressing up, whatever was going. I played with both boys and girls and we all just mucked in with whatever was about.

My mum was really good friends with someone who had four daughters, so of course I played with girls toys!

But...my big thing was cars. Always was, and probs always will be.

I do, he had a few barbie dolls!

Interesting, cause what you have described there pretty much fell in to the 'gay' category (if you like) - as shown last nite.

And what was the conclusion then?

Where are the kids who have been penned off, only allowed to play with (what are deemed to be typical boys or girls toys) and then studied to see whether they grow up to be gay or straight?

Yeah, exactly!

There are never any shows on TV to explore someone's straightness, or determine why someone grows up to be straight...

Generalising no?! I grew up with three sisters so prob played with girls toys like dolls, my little pony, etc. And several times they put make-up on me. By this logic I'm really a gayer and this gf non-sense is just a front...? ;-p

I didn't say they were right, I was just pointing out that Ben fell into the things they described. One Dr. looked at how children behaved from family videos and then looked at there outcome later in life, if they were gay or straight.

Also, the point he was making, was not that the toys they played with made them, rather that because being gay or straight was determined before you left the womb, it influenced the toys you played with, and also the fact that gay guys would be more open to playing with girls - it wasn't an exact science.

Another one was that the more older brothers you had, for each one you had a 30% more chance of being gay.

His showbiz accent.

They are all trained actors, and can chop and change accents at the drop of a hat.

I met Prunella Scales once - she talks with a really posh accent !

It prob isn't much of a science at all! Like Ben says, unless they do a controlled study and watch kids their entire life and see which toys they play with, then follow them through life, it doesn't mean much.

I bet loads of straight boys have played with dolls at some point and forgotten, whereas it is remembered for the gay ones. Relying on human memory to fill in for facts is not great idea.

I generally don't trust these sort of programmes, because it is soft science, but I didn't watch it so cannot comment on this specific show. As for barrowman, I don't like or dislike him. Torchwood is a ridiculously stupid show, but that's more to do with the writing and other actors than Barrowman.

What a load of old cobblers - kids play with whoever will play with them, and whatever they can find, be it a car, a football, a doll or a cardboard box.

Social conditioning determines that girls play with 'dolls' exclusively, but what are Action Man et al? Oh, yeah, figures.... Hmmm....

I don't think it is any more ridiculously stupid than other sci fi stuff.
