Which way round is the 9-5 rule you mention. If you work 9-5 you are more of a contractor or more like an employee?
Your more like an employee if you generally work the same office hours as the rest, but this is a small part of it, as if you are working on a client site as many companies do, you could argue there is no other option.
I guess my saving grace is that i have more than one customer.
I'm sure I will get screwed one day. My dad has a LTD company so I am thinking of asking him to put some work through his business so that it looks like I work for more than one company at a time, not sure if they will see through this as he's family? - at the moment I work for 1 (2 in the past 12months). I do work on a works computer as well as my own at home, my hours I basically chose although they are typically 'staff' hours. My agency assures my they have had no problems with IR35 with their clients. but you never know it's a grey area. My problem is that my first year of trading coincides with us having to fork out a lot of cash for various reasons, baby, home improvements, new windows, new car hence I hardly have any savings for an emergency. The next 12months I will be saving my jacobs off!
I will be looking to expand and invest and work for other companies in the near future when I have gained a few qualifications.
Liquid tried to shit everyone up with this IR35, I think everyone should save a little bit just in case. This is my plan, if they get me, I have the cash, if not, I have a happy retirement!
It's not a case of if they get you, but when they get you.
Even when I stopped working to go to Uni, the taxman noticed and sent me a tax return to do - admittedly it must have come as a big disappointment, as he had to give me money, not the other way around.
BTW, it is a criminal offence not to register as self employed when you start your own business.
