I'm sure I've already posted my martial arts experience, but just to contribute to the thread:
I'm a 3rd Dan black belt in Taekwondo (WTF/Kukkiwon Style). I started training in about 1986 but haven't trained properly since about 2002ish.
I'd love to get back to it (so don't really consider it giving up, more a sabattical) but the weight keeps getting in the way (I shift some, stop dietting because of work pressures and it comes back).
Next summer, I'll be back there!!!!
There are a couple of post here about 'getting back' to your chosen martial art. I wouldnt mind a quid for every lapsed student I have bumped into who says 'I'm coming back soon'. It doesnt happen....... Dont think about it or find a delaying excuse, just get back in there - now.
If you enjoy it - do it. Your mention of being overweight ........ doing your martial art will actually help you lose a bit of it.
You work hard. Give YOURSELF a couple of hours a week for your own pleasure and enjoyment. As the ladies say 'Because i'm worth it!'
My gym runs a kick boxing class and I'm gonna start tonight. I was thinking about it and umming and ahhing as I'm not as fit as I wanna be but your words inspired me, Rod!
Time to stop making excuses and start getting my ass get kicked by a professional!
Thanks Kev - very curious about Foo , a lot of the Warrior Site do it.
I could proably cope with the "conditioning " part of the training - its the contact bit that worries me, I don't even slam doors when I'm cross hit and tend to duck and negotiate rather then actively defend myself.
