Moby – Alice

The pint sized electro architect goes hip hop and pulls it off with aplomb

‘Alice’, which is released on 17th March, is the first single to be taken from his upcoming album Last Night and features the UK based underground rappers Aynzli and the 419 Squad.

“Aynzli’s style is so fast and so dense and fluid, I think that he’s going to have a remarkable career,” Moby says.

We say:

Make no bones about it, this is a much needed return to form for Moby after 2005’s oddly unaccommodating Hotel.

Built around a distorted, heavy as a truck bassline and string synths, ‘Alice’ feels progressive, not regressive, a far cry from the dust ridden gospel blues samples that haunted (brilliantly so) every nook and cranny of his mid career output.

Moreover, it feels organic and unique, retaining Moby’s trademark electronica while taking a ride through the urban sprawl of hip hop via the rapid fire vocals of the 419 Squad and Aynzli.

If there’s any justice in pop world, ‘Alice’ will be a monster hit.
