Mokssh

We consume curries by the bucketload, so how about Indian cocktails? Mansized's game...

Mokssh means "nirvana" in sanskrit if you really want to know.

What this joint wants us to swallow is that if an Indian restaurant can cook up a good curry - or a crappy high street one - then why not an Indian style cocktail?

Just point us towards the bar...

They say:

Time Out: “Goodness, I thought the cocktails must be good. Actually the food was better.”

Top Table: “The niche choice of drinks is genuinely superb.”

We say:

The answer if that yes, it can. The only problem with this establishment is that it’s trying to sell itself as a bar. It even looks like a bar with its pink and lilac shades and low seating, yet it’s menu is more like one you’d find in a restaurant – i.e. you got starters and mains.

Why not just have one long list of tapas style dishes and even expand on the cocktails, while also spruce up on those rather passé menu presentation skills? A PR botch up or what? But what the hell, ‘cause both the grub and the drinks aren’t bad at all.

Cocktails, courtesy of home made sugar syrups, are certainly notable. From the chelsea blazer that takes in a hint of cloves and oranges to a gorgeously effervescent raspberry mule with ginger liquor, there’s oodles of personality in those drinks.

Foodwise, items such as ajwaini prawns (made with yoghurt and caram seeds) accompanied by a cracker of a sweet and savoury home made pickle, the aloo mushroom patties and a substantial lamb dish of masala ka gosht (with whole spices), really score with robust and authentic flavours.

The one duff note we had was an undercooked chicken tikka and I just don’t buy the owner’s claim that chicken thigh meat is always pink. I mean, who wants their last meal to be a bite of salmonella?
