The beauty of this Brighton based all in one café-deli-grocery is that there’s nothing quite like it. Well, except its original flagship sister establishment in Lewes.
They say:
Observer Food Monthly: “Bill’s is one of those places that, as soon as it opens, makes you wonder how the devil you did without it.”
The Sunday Times: “You can brunch well with a plate of meze, a Sri Lankan lamb curry or a peppered steak sandwich.”
We say:
Started by chef and owner Bill Collison, who, in my books deserves an award for his services to giving the public classy wholesome food, the emphasis here is on quality local ingredients, which are utilised in both the fresh tasting café style food and the for sale produce on display.
The colourful, even decadent, presentation is matched by the flavouring, not to mention the portion size.
Highlights include Pizza made with such mouthwatering combinations as grape, apricot, spinach, pesto and walnut while a handsomely rendered smoked salmon tarlet is invested with beetroot, goat’s cheese, sunblushed tomato, spring onion and meux mustard.
There are excellent home made juices and smoothies too as well as cakes and pastries along with dry goods like the unmissable own made jams and condiments. Prices are also earthy though and be ready to share your table as queues are de rigueur.
Anyone who doesn’t appreciate Bill’s, doesn’t appreciate the pleasure of eating.
