She was on the verge of going bankrupt, but then who comes to the rescue of Charita Jones, aka Momma Cherri, but every troubled restaurant’s knight in shining armour, uber chef Gordon Ramsay.
They say:
Time Out Online: “Authentic, filling and fun, eating out at Momma Cherri’s is everything that mid-range dining should be.”
The Good Food Guide: “…where to go to get the best ribs in town, jerk chicken and classic jambalaya.”
We say:
Ramsay’s Channel 4 Kitchen Nightmares series was the one that rescued Momma’s business from going down. If you still recall the programme, Ramsay never questioned her cooking skills, just her business acumen.
Once that was in place, Momma Cherri’s has done so well that the joint even moved premises to larger ones earlier this year. But true to what Ramsay said, the food really is the ace here and with Charita being a Yank from the south, she loves her southern cooking.
So you get all sorts of fantastically made earthy fare such as fried chicken, ribs, burgers and meatloaf. But for the budget conscious and for good value for money, you can’t bat the menu’s ‘soul in a bowl’ concept here.
Costing just £10 per head at lunch (£15 for dinner), what you get for it is a selection of small bowls – a sort of a gut busting US style meze – filled with the likes of irresistible and seriously good BBQ chicken and ribs, meaty (or even veggie if you want it) jambalaya, hot wings, various salads, catfish goujons and much more. Oh, remember to wash it all down with the homemade lemonade.
This is genuinely sparkling stuff – well aided by Charita’s lively persona – and deserves al the success it’s getting. Check it out.
