Hard hitting political documentary about Maggie Thatcher's rise to power in the late 70s. Ha ha, just joking, it's actually a sexed up underwater action romp set in the Bahamas with Alba and Walker running around in their swimsuits for 90 minutes.
Walker plays Jared (none of the characters have surnames – why bother?), a hard up diving instructor who spends his spare time searching for sunken treasure and shagging his bronzed girlfriend Sam (Alba).
This all changes though when he finds a plane containing more cocaine than a Boy George house party at the bottom of the ocean.
Should he do the sensible thing and report his discovery to the cops or go for the slightly more risky option of trying to flog the gear to his mentally unhinged local drug dealer? Hint – it's not the first one.
They say:
Total Film: "Jessica Alba in a swimsuit. That’s all you need to know about John Stockwell’s underwater thriller that puts story a distant second to the Sin City starlet’s bodacious beach bod."
Telegraph: " Jessica Alba in a bikini and Paul Walker in low slung swimming shorts. It's like handing lead duties in a treasure hunt action movie to two highly trained dolphins."
Empire: " The Academy might not be troubled, but at times Into The Blue’s wet Hollywood bodies really hit the spot."
We say:
Let's be honest, the main reason for renting this DVD is to see Jessica Alba – who normally has a strict no nudity clause written into her contracts – in a bikini.
But there's also a fairly decent thriller/ action adventure here with some stunning underwater photography, neat plot twists and an entertaining turn from Caan as Jared's gung-ho best mate.
The plot may have more holes than a sunken galleon but ITB provides a thoroughly enjoyable escape from the cold British winter and any film that shows a group of coked up sharks attacking bad guys is ok with us.
Think Baywatch, but with slightly better acting and, sadly, no Hoff.
