Part of a small tapas style chain, this Teddington branch is the first in the group to have been given a complete makeover. Was it worth it?
They say:
The Daily Telegraph: “The lengthy menu is a guaranteed crowd pleaser.”
The Observer: “Hugely popular, especially throughout the weekend.”
We say:
This is the sort of high street bar restaurant where if one were to blink, you’d completely miss the joint and it wouldn’t make a blind bit of difference.
But the fact is that while it isn’t exactly going to set the world on fire, its owners have at least made a decent attempt. There are stained glass panels, wrought iron artefacts and subtle lighting with lots of middle class locals to boot!
The extensive tapas - ranging anywhere from £2.95 to £5.95 – may include the usual suspects such as crispy potato skins with guacamole or deep fried calamari, but there are also some fine and well-made distinctive ones too.
Marinated chicken skewers (£4.50) come accompanied by a quince, lemon and mint dip while sardines (£3.95) are served in pine nut, tomato and olive butter.
The paella of roasted vegetables, tomato and chilli (£4.50) is also well worth trying. The mains such as honey glazed chicken (£9.50) or cod and chorizo skewers (£12.95) come with various accompaniments and are substantial enough to be a meal in themselves.
Drinkswise, the place also delivers with a reasonable selection of wines, beers and cocktails (house creations are all at £6.95) and of course sangrias (£5 glass, £13.50 jug).
Best advice is probably to stick with the tapas and the booze, that way at least you get to try a variety of things, fill your belly and all without having to bust your bank balance.
