Nike's Joga Bonito

Eric Cantona brings us the best of the beautiful game. With absolutely no diving...

Joga Bonito is the latest bit of viral advertising from the company that brought us the Scorpion Secret Tournament and the impromptu street rugby game in Keep The Ball Alive.

The phrase means 'Play beautifully' in Portuguese and is a campaign to promote creative and attractive football by 'playing from the heart' and eliminating unfair and unsportsmanlike play.

Nike have organised a Joga football tournament, as well as a social network service through Google, but the pinnacle of the campaign is Joga TV, which this podcast is based around.

Hosted by Eric Cantona, Joga TV is portrayed as an underground broadcast channel 'filmed live from the heart of Germany' and displays the greater side of football: the skills, the flair and the creativity, whilst lambasting negative play.

They say:

iTunes customer reviews:

"Great footy videos. At last, a video podcast about football, not snowboarding or skateboarding."

"The best football podcast for the iPod."

"Quite literally jaw dropping clips."

We say:

Nobody does sports advertising like Nike and Joga TV appears to be keeping up the glorious tradition.

These are the kinds of videos that you will want to pass onto your friends, whether to debate if the Ronaldinho hitting the crossbar four times one is faked or to marvel at some of the sublime skill on display when Zlatan Ibrahimovic takes on Cristiano Ronaldo at trickery.

The 31 clips range in length from 27 seconds to just over three minutes and every one is well worth watching.

Each episode is packed full of sporting trickery and skills, but the show is stolen by Cantona, who is either madder than a box of frogs, or a better actor than most people give him credit for. His accent is so thick as to require subtitles and is perfect for crazed rants about shirt pulling or time wasting.

Highlights include watching Wayne Rooney play in goal, Cantona's diatribe against divers and the 3v3 'Big Cup' featuring Rooney and Ronaldo on opposing sides.

However, there are very few bad episodes here at all. Certainly a must for any football fanatic and definitely worth watching.
