We hereby declare 7th August to be ‘Robert Smith Day’ as Universal re-release not one, not two, but three Cure albums in the second instalment of their deluxe reissue series, following the success of Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, Faith, and Pornography. This time round it’s The Top, The Head on the Door and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me which are dusted off, remastered and then given an extra bonus disc of previously unreleased material. Well worth the investment.

Yet more Robert Smith retrospective goodness to be found on the Glove’s Blue Sunshine (Universal ***), which was a collaboration with long time mucker and Siouxsie & the Banshees bass player Steven Severin. As nutty as a bag of squirrels, the album is a fascinating expedition into psychedelic pop.

Madge steps aside and the lets the professionals do some justice to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical Evita on the official soundtrack, Evita 2006 London Cast Recording (Polydor ***). Strictly for fans of Will and Grace.

Also released this week is Nick Lachey’s latest opus What’s Left of Me (Sony). You know, the guy who was married to Jessica Simpson? Anyway, we’d rate his album for you but three songs in we felt compelled to beat our speakers with a mallet. Sorry about that.
