Don't know if anyone else watched the programme but the coverage was absolutely awful. They basically reworked the format to make it like the X factor/pop idol etc and it was just cringeworthy and really tough on the players.

I don't care if it sounds elitist, the Young Musician of the Year is just nothing like Pop Idol. It's always been a serious competition and you would not treat other classical musicians like that, so why subject these performers to the same circus that accompanies pop music?

It doesn't make the programme more accessible either. If you're not into classical music, then Gethin Jones interviewing a 12-year-old trombonist's parents isn't going to make you interested. It's not like these kids are playing popular classics either: they are playing music by Ibert and Torke (who????).

Producers are such muppets sometimes.
