Imagine if they 'came out', even their fans would say things to them. Is it best that it is kept quiet.
WTF?!
Don't get me wrong, I am not a left liberal campaigning type, I just think everyone should get on with things, but comments like this do not help, JT5.
It's easy to blame society, isn't it?
Very, but who makes up society? Yes, all of us, and if people carry on with the 'well, it's always been this way' attitude then nothing will ever change in the world of sport.
It needs one player to make the break-through, live through the pain, and play a good game, and the taboo would be broken.
There are many a rumour about swimmers too, but I can't remember names...
There is at least one all-gay Sunday football team (or at least I'm pretty sure they were non-league), they were profiled in The Guardian magazine one Saturday last year alongside one for the blind, the homeless, and so on.
....
The one all-gay rugby team that I read about in The Guardian was slagged off by Peter Tatchell for "selling out" when they started to play against straight teams. Start by not letting loudmouths with agendas claim to represent an entire community, and that'll be the start of more openly gay sportspeople.
Both the football team, and the rugby team (not that I have ever been in a hot tub with any of the rugby players! :-O) are pretty well known in London. There is also a gay rugby team in Manchester, The Spartans, who are pretty well known - maybe it says something about the attitude of the people who play and follow rugby, that there are two quite successful teams who play.
