Mate, I would follow one of the programmes on here - the Anthony starter one is dead easy to follow, and pretty quick, so you can complete it within your 40 mins timescale, and because you add a new exercise every week, it keeps it fresh!

This is then a really quick fix to a major part of your overall training/diet programme, allowing you to concentrate on the, arguably harder (for us skinnies) diet part

We need an eat-a-thon!

The MH Muscle plan is good. I can pretty much stick to the timings and it is well planned.

Help with the food would be great, its really starting to confuse me.

shut it y'all or i'll eat ya's....just kidding.
I'm using the routine I used last year, by Ellington Darden (Phd beeches) from his book 'The New High Intensity Training'. Mainly cos its the only routine I've followed that gave me the quickest and most impressive gains in the shortest amount of time.

Also cos I'm an impatient fooker.

Hi Niall!

What help do you need? Why not post @Ant or @Mansized Dudes on your log?

The gym was complete empty today which was awesome so I bopped around a bit until i realized the entire pilates class was staring at me thru the studio window.

Where I could I increased the weights. I did a few warm up sets on my lower body cos my legs were killing me.

Squat
85kg
Leg extentions
55kg
Leg curls
55kg
Leg press
200kg
Bent arm fly with dumbbell
18kg
Barbell shoulder shrug changed to dumbbell shoulder shrugs
25kg each
Bicep curls with dumbells (sitting down)
18kg
Lat machine
45kg
Dips (unassisted)
12 reps
Wrist curls
2 sets of 15 20kg barbell

I'm still sore all over from friday's workout but i reckon a bit of a good rest and i'll be alright though it did make today's workout a lot more difficult.

kind of an aside:

every month I'm going to do something I;ve never done before. Something out of my comfort zone. Hopefully, if I like it, I'll stick to it and do it regularly (like the army thing).

Last month I went horse riding, pics will be up tomorrow.

this month ...heh heh..i'll post pics after i've done it. Its something Ive always wanted to do but have been terrified of doing it.

Update.

Going to the gym is harder than I thought. It means having to go to bed before 11 (I never do) and waking up at 5am. I sleep under giant windows that fill a whole wall and sleep with the curtains open so I wake up (usually) with the dawn and before my alarm clock. It also means my neighbours get to watch me wake up at full mast.
I’ll have the ipod at full blast and by the time I’m at the gym I have the place all to myself, the weights and dumbbells all mixed up and messed around from last night. I like it best when the steel is really cold and my fingers stick to it. A swiss ball is partially under the smith machine and I punt it across the room where it ends up between a pec deck and a step machine.

The routine is hard, from 45 minutes I’ve managed to cut it down to 30 but by which I end up dizzy and nauseous. But dizzy and nauseous in a good way, its hard to explain, but I feel totally wiped out and ready to go back to bed. My legs aren’t able to totally support me and little spasms run along and up my body like crackles of lightning.

The chin up is my enemy and I keep it until last. By now, all the cardio machines are whiring and clicking and thrumming in full motion across the hall and it looks like I’m in the bowels of some gigantic machine with human sized rodents generating electricity. The weights area is still empty so I stare across like a retard and imagine giant pieces of cheese dangling in front of them fatties on treadmills.

Standin under the chin up bars is hellish enough as its directly in front of a mirror. I could easily be the skinny Finn that stood in the back of the PE class praying the teacher fell to the floor with an aneurism so we wouldn’t have to run about like fucktards outside in the freezing sleet. I take a moment until I’ve managed to convince myself that because I’m covered in sweat and wearing my Japanese surfer t shirt that it must make me look damn sexy.
The chin up is the motherfucker of all exercises, dumb bell curls, tricep dips, bench press, leg extensions, the works, I’ll give my best and rep until exhaustion but I’ll only do the chin ups if there isn’t anyone within a 17 meter radius. I hate hanging there and knowing my muscles are about to fail and I’ll either a) drop to the floor in a puddle of sweat and saliva and swallow my tongue or b) dangle there uselessly, unwilling to let go and unable to pull myself back up again. At least with a barbell above my head theres the extra impetus of not having a dented forehead and looking like one of the Gallagher brothers.

I’m partially numb from running from weight station to station and the first two chin ups feel ok, I think, like a fool, hey I’m doing alright at the exact moment my center will start to sway. Four and five and this time I’m clenching my teeth and shaking all over. The temptation to just let go and chalk it up to ‘next time’ gets stronger. I manage one pathetic half ass rep and even though I’m in incredible pain I can still marvel at how fucking stubborn my body is by not moving when I tell it to.

I hate the gym. I hate coming here and making myself look like a fool.

But by the time I shower, change, and have my protein drink I’ll feel alright. Better than alright actually. Its only 7am and I’ll walk slowly towards work, the summer is coming and for some mad reason, after all that torture I just put myself through, I feel more alive than I would have if I had slept in, ate pop tarts and rubbed myself against the hot women in the tram.

By the time I’ve walked a block I’ll be whistling and humming, endorphins kick in and the cold air feels good. Each individual muscle of my skinny ass frame is thrumming. I feel like running and imagine myself tabbing across Piccadilly Gardens at full speed, knocking over powersuits and nasty spinster women with attitudes with a big shit eating grin on my greek face.

I love the gym. I love feeling of my pulse in the palms of my hands and feeling alive and part of something vital. Something that I cant see reflected in the faces of all the others stumbling to work, still asleep, never awake.
