Today's episode (One of Us, season 3, episode 16) was sooooo good!!! Especially the last five minutes. We got to see life in the Others camp as well as a whole mess of off island adventures. But the last five minutes was amazing! I couldnt help but get goosebumps. Ok its not a total surprise but it was amazing, this has to be the best show on tv for charcater development. Today's episode had a particularly well written script too which really helped underline how alien and 'otherly' the Others are.

I'll admit there was a bit of a slow down past the mid season point but that was just the calm before the storm, Same happened in Battlestar.
I think because today's episode was about one of my favorite characters (Juliet) I really enjoyed it a lot more than usual. The episode was about how she got onto the island so it was a bit of a vicarious journey for the viewer through her eyes which made the ending even better.
Yeah I am still enjoying it too, even though I know a lot of people are fed up with the slowdown I still like it. I think they are running out of back stories with the main Losties - the nikki and ? one a few weeks ago was amusing.
They have finally begun to reveal a few things at least. The Others are not the same as DHARMA - in fact, they hate each other. Also, the Others do not know what the black smoke is. Rousseau called it a security system - is it a DHARMA thing or an island thing? And why did it spare Eko first time then kill him?
I dont know if you saw it but the Others do know about the Monster/Cerbeus, they even have a way of fighting back.
I did like the Nikki and Paulo one but looking at their storyline from a series point of view rather than an episodic one, it really seemed like just filler or at the very least, one writer saying 'what happened to the other survivors' and then going a bit mad. There's a short story in Everything's Eventual (Stephen King) very similar to the Nikki and Paulo story and well worth the read if you get a chance.
I never used to watch tv shows like this, i'd wait until they were on dvd then watch them all in one go, the anticipation is killing me.
Yeah the sound barrier stops the smoke, but Juliet admitted they dont know what it is, only how to keep it away.
One thing that they have lost is the mystical aspect, the way the Others were ghostly and otherworldly with the whispers. We have almost learnt too much - but I suppose that was inevitable. Have you seen any of the extra online stuff with the Lost Experience and the side internet stories about Rachel Blake and Hanso?
The fact that Juliet ha the handcuff key all along should raise a few flags regarding how much she/they really know about Cerberus.
What I really liked was the reemergence of the mystical aspect to the island, this is mostly Locke centric because of his character. But anyone that has gone to an isolated tropical beach would agree most places are like that. Finding out how Locke lost the use of his legs was done in a great way.
The online stuff was great but I watched in from China which sucked ass because they did an event in manchester. I do remember ripping apart html code on the Oceanic website to uncover the secret messages, the same with the Hanso site too.
Ok I sound a bit obsessed but I love that level of interactivity from a well planned, well written story.
Haha, i missed it all until it was nearly over. I like that they went to all that trouble for their fans. I looked at the Lost wiki which listed the abilities you needed to solve all the clues, including computer coding, knowing korean etc which meant it had to be more than one person working together to solve it - like the Losties.
Yeah it is a bit mental and OTT but I like it :)
I wonder if they will ever go back to the plague story? Rousseau claimed her team was all infected with something and killed them. The Others tried vaccinating Claire's baby for something. Yet the man that was trapped with Desmond in the Hatch, the DHARMA man, he lied about the virus as he went out and about with a torn containment suit, and no one else is sick.
Is it anything to do with the deadly virus the Hanso Company was working on before Hanso took back control of his company thanks to his daughter? Or they just going to ignore it all?
They went some way in explaining the virus today and explained everything regarding Claire but today's episode was even explaining stuff from season one!!!
I think it shows we can trust the writers enough that they won't leave us hanging, and as you pointed out, their dedication to the fans is probably one of the reasons why this is such a great show.
I have a sneaking suspicion that series 4 is going to be mostly off-island, each series seems to undergo a gestalt shift in focus, themes and scope. Perhaps then we'll get a better look at Hanso, his daughter and the Degroots.
Oh ace, glad they do something useful then. I got my brother in law 2 of the free apollo bars from the special offers they did last year :P Not sure if they tasted any good - apparently Apollo Bars were bought by Hanso Company to spread virus :S
