A knockout competetion is based purely on the best team over any given tie. If Chelsea lose, it doesnt mean Liverpool are any less credible winners!

Why? We're the FA Cup holders, finished third last season, one point behind this seasons likely champions, could finish third this season and knocked out the current UEFA champions in this competition. If Liverpool win there'll be no question of the cups credability!

Well why United then? Are they the current champions? No! How are they more worthy a team to compete when the y won the Carling Cup last year and finished just a point above us?
The last time United won the Champions League they didn't even qualify as champions!
