Anyone got a pc with this? I know two people who have recently got a pc with Vista, one hates it and the other likes it; thinking of sticking with Xp until MS sort out the bugs, plus I prefer Xp structure to Vista.
Need a new pc, have had my present pc since Easter 2002 and I do need to change it. Dell still have some pc's with Xp as OS and am tempted to continue with Xp rather then get a new pc with Vista. If I want a pc with Xp have to act fast, as only a limited range are available with Xp, was looking at the XPS but that is only available with Vista now.
i got a free upgrade to Vista and i've only just put it on after 4 months of having the disc. really impressed. very fast and the aero thing is very cool. You do need lots of RAM to benifit though imo.
Microsoft say you need 1GB RAM, but many reports suggest 1.5GB. Whatever pc I get, will get it with 2GB RAM.
When my brother got his Dell XPS it was only available with Xp, so he got that. I have read lots of information on the internet, but when anything involves Microsoft there often a lot of anti comments.
My main concern would be Quicken 2000, Dreamweaver would be a minor concern but I am sure Macromedia MX would run on Vista. Will have to search to use if Q2000 would work on Vista, I suspect it does. Even if it does not, stick got two pc's that use Xp.
You'll end up on vista at some point anyway.. buy a good computer and take the plunge of vista with it. It'll be an ideal time, like a 'new beginning' coinciding your new machine with a new operating system.
I will have to use Vista at some point; when Xp came out, I still used Windows 2000 (which I still prefer) and continued to use it, until I reformatted my pc (2005).
Some people are having problems with Quicken on Vista, but there is some advice on the WWW about how to get Quicken to work.

Not sure, only one person* mentioned their spec. It seems when I have to backup files, I may have to locate the file everytime instead of the application automatically finding the location, as it does when using 2000 and Xp OS.
Even if I do have issues when using Vista, there are still two other pc's in household that I can use instead; however, I would prefer using my pc.
Use what ever you're comfortable with, I use Ubuntu and FreeBSD on my desktop. If I need to use windows I use windows 2000. What works for me though might not be best for others.
