I day traded for about three years used to make a few bob till 99/2000 when it all went pear shaped apart from the .com crash which dragged the whole markets down company fundementals seemed to become some what irrelevant any sort of head line news that was nothing to do with company fundementals would have a huge effect on the markets, as an example during the initial Iraq war a young female G.I was captured and subsequently rescued on the news of her rescue the Nasdeq went through the roof thats when i exited from the markets, i could cope with company fundementals but the ex-curicular effect was just unpredictable, i still have some long term exposure but regular trading is no more for me. On a wider note the bulk of peoples investments whether it be pensions insurance ect as stock market exposure, this is what the Govenment dos'nt tell you when it's thinking of legislating for people to invest in their own pension provisions, when you get to pension age if the markets have gone your pension funds gone with it !! there are no gaurantee's

I check the shares quite often as it's good to understand them for business.

I have Unit Trust investments that I've had for years and years.... my dad is a real whizz with money and accounting/investment but I'm a real dunce.
They are my nest egg really..... but I don't keep an eye on them.
