if it's just for beat patrols then it's a good idea (although, why the police can't just use bikes and get fit...)

they should stick to their mountain bikes and set an example, healthwise apart from anything.

and I'm sure someone has a batch of sinclair c5's lying around the place they could have ...

Mountain bikes seem a lot more practical, I'd like to see them go up curbs and through bollards with those. And cheaper.
