Valencia wanted £40m for David Villa and Zidane was sold for £48m. Zidane was not worth the £48m Madrid paid, maybe £30m. On top off that he retired at Madrid, so with no re-sale potential £48m is a lot. Whereas with Torres, there is re-sale potential if Liverpool or the player wanted to move.

You can never answer that question, until they players has been there for a few seasons.
For example, was Beckham worth the £25m transfer, yes because Madrid made that money from sales. Was he worth the transfer for playing football? No, his time at Madrid was summed up in his last game - he came off and then Madrid started to play a lot better.

I doubt Utd would pay £40m, it is just media talk or someone from Spurs saying we will only sell him for x amount.

Berbatov is a great player.

The talent alone of any player is not worth the figures being banded around. That said, if if Darren Bent is 'worth' £17m then Zidane was worth more than the £48m Real paid for him.

He was an outstanding player- best of a generation. He was a better player than people give him credit for. Much better.
