I've never stopped playing my 12"ers, and the smell of vinyl is soooooo lovely.
Anyways, back to the thread - yes I have loads of vinyl and take it out regularly and give it a spin. You can't beat a good 12"er, you need to treat with tlc - mines date back to the late 70's when disco vinyl was to die for.
I guess I may be one of the original Studio 54 happy dancing gang that emulated the US frenzy up here in the north east of scotland.
Altogether now - Aaaaahhhhhh Freak Out, Le Freak, c'est Chic, Freak Out!
The music business is mercenary, they will re-sell you anything on any format and the media constantly waste time trying to say this format's in and that format's out. Records are what, 90 years old? "Modern" Tape 44, CD 25, Minidisc 11. Tape's the only one that's truly been replaced by MD and not coming back in my case.
I've had my own turntable for six years and have a stack of dance 12s even if the first thing I usually did was record them to Minidisc and not play the originals for months after that - bought one in the last couple of months which I heard on a sample CD and want to pick up some more from the last five years, but will stick to CD for rock.
As pointed out in the article, if you're a fan of a particular artist or band you'll collect their stuff. It also suits the £2 per single pricing model to have a double sided music format, rather than wasting 60 minutes of a CD on a single.
