Help,
I am moving out and I got a removal man who disconnected and removed the washing machine this was last night, but about midday today all the taps in the house stopped running. I CALLED HIM AND HE DIRECTED ME TO A SMALL BLUE TAP which he said after turning would get the water flowing after an hour and a haf...well still n no luck. I am in a house share and the others are not pleased.

if you water isn't running then he must have switched it off at the mains.

look in the cupboard under the sink. you should see a tap there. turn that on and the water should start again imediately

errr, find the stopcock, the main tap for the water supply coming into the house.

*wonders how people can not know about that*

did someone turn off the pipe that fills the tank in the loft?
Maybe the kitchen pipe is the only direct mains one.. the rest are from the tank upstairs.

I dont know.

that means the outlets from your tank in the attic have been closed off

but I can't believe your washing machine is being fed by your attic tank

Turning a globe valve clockwise will close the valve. Try anti-clockwise!
If they are butterfly valves then you can only turn them 90°, to see if they are open/closed use the handle/ lever is indication.
The lever is inline with the pipe: open.
The lever is at 90° to the pipe: closed.

:o)
