The battle of ideas runs on the 27 and 28 October 2007 at the Royal College of Art, London SW7 2EU.
It's remit is rather pretentiously described as 'shaping the future through debate' - although don't let that put you off. There are discussions and debates planned on topics including 'the resurrection of religion', ' what is education for?', 'what ever happened to serious tv?', 'is Britain a nation of sporting losers?' and 'recycling is a waste of time'.
Well known speakers will be joining in debates and there will also be film and animation screenings, poetry and play readings, and music.
It sounds like it could be very interesting and I'm sure lots of mansizers would give some of the key speakers a run for their money.
I'm slightly disappointed that any sharing of information has to be set up in a boring old combative style since there are other ways to discuss issues of science, ethics and culture, but I guess it's the way most people understand science communication these days,
Anyway, check out the website and see if there are any issues that take your fancy - perhaps you could even debate some in advance here.
I went to the first meeting last night, in the Design Museum.
The motion was Are Designers In Denial?
Came really close to meeting Patrick Cox, Designer of the 2012 logo, but he chickened out of the event.
It was very good, too broad and some issues not dealt with thoroughly enough
Jonathan Barnbrook ended asking Designers should decide if they are a force for good or not
There are motions of every kind throughout the programme of events
Some interesting ones on parenting and the myspace generation
